The minimum age English language schools will accept is 16. For younger students, we offer junior summer programmes from June until August.

Our most popular course is general English and most students study for 15 hours per week. Students improve their English through speaking, writing and listening exercises and cover important grammar and vocabulary. Our partner schools will request you do a short exam so they can asses your level.

All levels are catered for from Beginner to Advanced. Our partner schools will request you do a short exam so they can asses your level.

Our partner schools offer two types of accommodation – homestay and student residence.

Homestay is with Irish families, with a single room and a light laundry service. During the week is generally half board (breakfast, dinner and supper) and the weekend is full board (all meals). Homestay families are located in suburban Dublin, so this option involves travelling by bus to school every day.

Student residence is in apartments located in the centre of town and within walking distance to the school. Single and shared rooms are available and room with private shower and toilet can be found on request. Student residence is self-service, so students will need to cook their own meals.

Socialising

Cinema tickets cost between €7 to €12 depending on what time and where you see the film. Student discounts are usually available during the week on production of a student card, but most cinemas do not offer student rates at the weekend and there is no discount at the expensive soft-drink and snack counters! Entrance fees to nightclubs generally vary between €7 and €15 depending on the venue. On average, a pint of beer in Dublin costs about €5 and a glass of wine costs about €6. However, prices can vary quite significantly between bars.

If cigarettes are part of your lifestyle, you are likely to find them expensive in Ireland at around €10 for a packet of 20. There is a ban on smoking in any workplace, which means that it is prohibited to smoke in bars and restaurants.

Non-EU students will need to apply for a visa to study in Ireland. If you are from any of these countries, you will need to apply for a visa. In order to apply for a visa, there are certain conditions that need to be met, such as sufficient funds in your bank account. A full list of these requirements can be found here.

An essential document to apply for a visa is a letter from the school confirming start dates, course information and confirmation that the course has been paid in full. Welcome Ireland can organise this documentation for you. If your visa is refused, your fees are refunded but in most cases the school will keep the €65 course registration fee.

To start the application process Welcome Ireland would need details of when you would like to start the course and what your course and accommodation requirements are. We will then advise you on the best options for you. Once you are happy with everything, Welcome Ireland then issue an invoice. Once the invoice has been paid, Welcome Ireland then contact the school and book you onto the course, organise your accommodation and any other services you require, such as insurance, airport transfer or to sit an exam such as Cambridge or IELTS.

If you are a non-EU student the application process is the same, but Welcome Ireland in this case will request a ‘visa invitation letter’ which you can use to apply for a visa.

No refunds are given for non arrivals, late arrivals, early departures or absences, for whatever reason, from classes during any course.

A full refund is given due to a cancellation of programme following payment in cases of serious illness or COVID. In both cases documentation will be required. For all other cancellations (no reason, change of plan) a full refund minus our agency fee is given.

Full fees (Minus the school cancellation fee) are refunded in the event of a visa refusal but the visa application number must be provided.

Class sizes are on average from 8 – 15 students but due to government regulations will never exceed 15.

Classes take place from around 9am until 1pm, depending on the school and with a 15 minute break in the middle. Classes always take place from Monday to Friday.

The format of the class is that in the first half a grammar or vocabulary point is introduced through course books or materials and during the second half the content of the first half is practiced through speaking or ‘open’ activities.

All our schools adhere to strict government regulations and any issues you have can be dealt with by either contacting Welcome Ireland or the academic department in your school.

Welcome Ireland can also offer a range of other services. These services are as follows;

  • Airport transfer – between €40 – €70 (one way) depending on school
